On 27th November the DURAFILE consortium meet in Brussels for presenting in front of the EC their results and conclusions about the 2-years project. The consortium explained the technical issues related to the first digital preservation software for home users and small/medium companies, including a demo of the platform. SMEs presented their expectations for commercialising it, including a draft of a Business Model.
On 28th September, DURAFILE helds its final project meeting at the ATEKNEA premises in Barcelona (Spain), two years after it began. During the meeting, each member of the consortium presented the results achieved in the DURAFILE project. University of Girona (UDG) presented the platform including a demo and a tutorial of the developed platform. The consortium discussed different business models and agreed an exploitation agreement for launching the platform to the market.
On 24 April, New York (USA) held the Personal Digital Archiving 2015 conference. This conference was about preservation of any digital collection that falls outside the purview of large cultural institutions, which is the problem that the DURAFILE project faces. The conference presented a set of projects created by citizen archivists that recognized the importance of preserving digital collections. The RTDs released the first Beta of the DURAFILE Platform for internal testing. The RTDs launched it for the different operating systems (WINDOWS, MAC and LINUX). It is expected that during summer the consortium will test and provide feedback in order to reach a final version before the end of the project (scheduled at the end September).
Last Wednesday, April 29th, 2015 DURAFILE developers met in Barcelona to explain the current status of the prototype and the future tasks to be carried out during the forthcoming months. The principal points discussed were the progress of the last months and the future integration, validation and exploitation of the DURAFILE platform. The main developing partners performed some demos to show the functioning of the platform.
The Open Planets Foundation offers a new forum site (http://qanda.digipres.org/) for questions related to Digital Preservation. At this forum, the digital preservation community are encouraged to ask and help answering digital preservation questions. In order to facilitate the search to the community, questions can be tagged into several categories such as web-archiving, media, storage, data curation,……
DURAFILE was represented by the University of Tallinn in the 6th international seminar in the series of Digital Memory organised last 28 January 2015 in the National Library of Estonia. The seminar focused on web archiving (Web Archiving: Preserving the History of Data-Driven Society) and was addressed to researchers in information technology, library studies, digital humanities, information specialists and others interested in preserving web content. Girona City Council, through its Municipal Archive, is hosting and organizing the 2nd Annual Conference of the International Council on Archives (ICA), which will be held in from 11th to 15th October 2014. This event will coincide with the celebration of the 9th European Conference on Archives (ECA), organized every four years by the European Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURBICA). Also taking place at the same time is the 13th Image and Research Seminar, organized biennially by the Centre for Image Research and Diffusion (CRDI) of Girona City Council in conjunction with the Archivists Association of Catalonia (AAC), which will mainly focus on photographic and audiovisual documents. On the 23rd September 2014, the developers of the DURAFILE technology joint together in Brussels to review the work performed during the first twelve months of development and plan the next steps in the implementation, the possible business models for placing the DURAFILE platform into the market and some IPR issues.
