From 22nd to 24th July 2014, Washington (USA) held the annual Digital Preservation meeting, which brings together experts in academia, government and the private and non-profit sectors to celebrate key work and share the latest developments, guidelines, best practices and standards in digital preservation.
What will be remembered about us? How to preserve personal archives in the 21st century To commemorate the International Archives Day, the Municipal Archive of Girona (AMGi) and the Centre for Image Research and Diffusion (CRDI) of Girona’s City Council (Catalonia) have made available to citizens a resource for the preservation of their personal archives. This resource includes basic recommendations emerged from the experience of the archive’s technicians.
In order to raise public awareness of the importance of digital archives and their preservation for future generations, the participants at the International Congress in Vienna (ICA) in 2004, adopted the resolution of requesting the United Nations for the creating of an International Archives Day. The ICA decided to set the 9th June as the date for this annual event.
On 2nd April 2014, the DURAFILE consortium visited the “Baltic Film and Media School “(cooperated by the “Estonian Digital Centre”) which is located in Tallinn (Estonia) invited by the University of Tallinn. The visit has been developed during the DURAFILE M6 meeting. The Baltic Film and Media School of Tallinn University offers degree courses in film arts, crossmedia production and audiovisual media. During the visit, the DURAFILE consortium was instructed by a team of the Estonian Digital Centre about film post-processing and film digitalization. The consortium thanks “Baltic Film and Media School” and “Estonian Digital Centre” teams for the visit.
Tallinn was the city chosen to celebrate the Month 6 meeting of the DURAFILE project. During the event, the consortium focussed on the specifications of the DURAFILE platform also covering security issues. The proposed DURAFILE platform design including its features was presented and discussed by all participants.
In October 2013 the partners of the DURAFILE project met in Barcelona, Spain, for the official kick-off meeting, hosted by Ateknea Solutions. The event took place on the 8th in Hotel Diagonal Centro and provided an insight into each partner’s point of view and expectations for the future development of the technology. The participants of this Project are coming from different countries and their roles are classified according to their contribution: researchers, technical support companies, end user profile entities and other advisors. All rules regarding the administrative operation, the technical objectives of the project, the tasks that will lead the SMEs to the target for the future commercialisation, were successfully reviewed.
